Fear of being well

We've all struggled with symptoms in our body that just didn't feel right. This comes with being human.  Everything changes, including the condition of our day to day health.

Whether it is recurring aches and pains, digestive issues, stress or anxiety, there is rarely a time when everything feels perfect. Sometimes, however, these symptoms are warning signs for our health and the path that we are on.

Often times, we already know the actions we need to take in order to relieve these symptoms and bring our bodies back into harmony.  The thing is, we are afraid to heed those warning signs and do what we know to be necessary to improve ourselves and bring our bodies to vibrant health.

Doing so means we have to make changes. We have to eat better, and perhaps eat less. We have to exercise, and practice mindfulness. The thought of doing these things can seem daunting.  It can feel uncomfortable. For this reason, many people don't make such improvements, and suffer from health ailments of one form or another.

I feel like many of us are afraid of being well. We’re afraid of the commitment and self discipline that it takes to improve ourselves. But when you really think about it, what else is there in this life than to make ourselves better?  What else is there besides our bodies?  If we do not have our health, then what do we have?  Our health is everything.

Once we accept the fact that we can truly improve, we are only left with the decision of whether we will continue acting habitually without thinking of the consequences, or become conscious of our decisions and take responsibility over our lives.

Perhaps what it takes is experiencing enough pain and discomfort to finally commit to making a positive change in our lives.  That's largely been the case for me.  In the end, I think it is the fear of what we will be giving up that is the greatest thing holding us back from truly becoming who we’re supposed to be and realizing our full potential.

Once the desire for self-improvement, health, and feeling comfortable in our own bodies outweighs the fear of what it will take to achieve our goals, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities.
